Since the nineteenth century, the Moravian Provincial Archives in Brno have held a collection of Bohemical manuscripts and printed books that represent the only items officially returned from Sweden to the Czech lands. These comprise significant Bohemical texts, written in Czech, which were identified in 1851 by Beda Dudík during his research in Swedish libraries, specifically in the National Library of Sweden in Stockholm.

Protracted negotiations concerning their restitution began in 1875 and were successfully concluded thanks to Dudík’s personal and friendly relations with Gustav Edvard Klemming, then Director of the National Library of Sweden. With the consent of the Swedish parliament, King Oscar II donated in 1878 to the government in Vienna a collection of twenty-one Czech manuscripts and two printed books; as a symbolic counter-gift, the Swedish side received a set of luxurious contemporary prints of Austrian provenance.

Beda Dudík personally received the manuscripts in Stockholm on 7 June 1878. He first had them transported to Vienna, where Emperor Franz Joseph I wished to examine them, and subsequently transferred them to Brno, where they were deposited in the Moravian Provincial Archives on 27 June 1878.
